Bengals vs Rams – Week 8 Preview

October 25, 2019 Kaleb Riesenberg Leave a Comment

The Cincinnati Bengals are headed to London, England to play the Los Angeles Rams in their Week 8 matchup on Sunday, October 27th at Wembley Stadium.

The Bengals are coming into this game 0-7 after a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars by a final score of 27-17. The stories of the game were the four turnovers by the Bengals and the offense’s inability to get the run game going with Joe Mixon. Mixon only had 2 yards on 10 carries and Giovani Bernard had 0 yards on 4 carries. You know your run game is bad when quarterback Andy Dalton leads your team in rushing, he had 33 yards on the ground on 4 rushes. Dalton finished the game with 22 completions on 43 attempts for 276 yards, 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions. The Bengals were leading 10-9 going into the 4th quarter, but three interceptions thrown by Dalton (one being a pick six by Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue) put an end to any comeback for the Bengals.

The Rams are coming into this game with a 4-3 record after a blowout win against the Atlanta Falcons by a final score of 37-10. This was a much-needed win for the Rams. Coming into last week they had lost 3 straight games after starting the season 3-0. Rams Quarterback Jared Goff had 22 completions on 37 attempts for 268 yards, 2 touchdowns, 0 interceptions and a rushing touchdown. Rams running back Todd Gurley had 41 rushing yards on 18 carries and a receiving touchdown. The Rams defense forced three turnovers and had over fourteen more minutes of time of possession than the Falcons.

You can catch this week’s game at 1:00 pm (EST) on CBS.

Forty-Nine to Nine

The Bengals won their fourth straight game yesterday by defeating the New York Jets 49-9 at Paul Brown Stadium. It’s been a long time since the Bengals won by 40 or more points and dominated in all 3 phases of the game (offense, defense, and special teams). Let’s take a look at a few players who shined in each of the three phases during Sunday’s win.

Offense:

Andy Dalton – Dalton had over 300 yards passing for a 3rd straight game and had a career high 5 TD passes. The Red Rifle is on fire. He finished with 19 completions on 30 attempts, 325 yards passing, 5 TD’s and 1 interception.

Marvin Jones – Second year wide receiver Marvin Jones had the best game of his young career. He had 8 receptions, 122 yards and 4 TD’s. He has 7 TD receptions on the year now and has caught a touchdown in each of the past 3 games.

Defense:

Chris Crocker – Crocker’s veteran presence has been felt as he has been a big help to this defense over the past few weeks. He picked off Geno Smith to start the 3rd quarter and returned the interception 32 yards for a TD. He also had 5 tackles and a pass defensed.

Adam Jones – With Leon Hall being out Adam Jones got the start and finished with 7 tackles, 2 passes defensed and the big 60 yard interception return for a TD to put the Bengals up 49-9 in the 4th quarter.

James Harrison – Harrison has his most active game, he had 6 tackles, a QB sack late in the game and another hit on the quarterback.

Special Teams:

Brandon Tate – Tate had a big 71 yard kick return just before halftime that set up the Bengals 4th touchdown of the game and put them up by a score of 28-6 at the half.

Bengals Face Tough Jets Team At Home

The Bengals are currently in the middle of a stretch of games where they play 4 out of 5 on the road, they have won the past 2 games on the road (against the Bills and Lions) both by a score of 27-24, and today they play the lone home game in that stretch against the New York Jets. It won’t be easy to come away with a victory though as they go against a tough Jets team who come in with the 4th ranked overall defense in the NFL and are coming off of a big win in overtime last week over the New England Patriots. The Bengals have also had a history of struggling against rookie quarterbacks and this week they face another in Jets QB Geno Smith.

The Bengals will try to win there 4th game in a row and will try to improve to 4-0 at home on the season. A few things to look out for in this game for the Bengals:

NFL: Cincinnati Bengals at Detroit Lions

1) Can Andy Dalton stay on a roll. Dalton is coming off back-to-back games of throwing for over 300 yards and 3 TD passes in each game. He has made good decisions, spread the ball around well to his weapons, and has only thrown one interception over those 2 games.

2) Life without Leon. How will the Bengals secondary account for the loss of Leon Hall? It will be interesting to see how 2012 1st round draft pick Dre Kirkpatrick plays as he will most likely see increased playing time. The time is now for Dre to prove he was worthy of being drafted in the first round.

3) D-line pressure. The Bengals defensive line played well last week against a quarterback in Matthew Stafford who gets rid of the ball quick but they did not record any sacks. I imagine they will be motived to end the sack drought this week against a rookie QB.

Many Bengals fans still have a bad taste in their mouth from 2 losses to the Jets back in 2009. They were crushed by the Jets in New York 37-0 in the final regular season game in 09′ and then the next week they were beaten at home 24-14 in the AFC Wild Card Playoff game. The Bengals lost to the Jets in NY again in 2010 by a score of 26-10. The last time Cincinnati defeated the Jets was back in 2007 when they came away with a 38-31 win in Cincy. This will be Andy Dalton and A.J. Green’s first time playing against the Jets in a regular season game and I like the Bengals to win in a close one.

My Prediction: Bengals 23, Jets 21
