The Bengals released veteran defensive back Jimmy Wilson today. Wilson was signed prior to training camp and played 13 games for the San Diego Chargers last season and was with the Miami Dolphins before that from 2011 to 2014. The Bengals probably have the 4 safeties who will make the team on the roster now in George Iloka, Shawn Williams, Derron Smith and rookie 7th round draft pick Clayton Fejedelem.
The Bengals cut longtime return man and wide receiver Brandon Tate today after 5 years in Cincinnati. Tate was much maligned with Bengals fan but was much more steady & dependable in recent years. Rookie free agent receiver Alex Erickson has played well this preseason scoring 3 touchdowns (2 receiving & 1 punt return) in 3 games so far and has an excellent chance to make this team now. Erickson should be the main punt returner come Week 1 but the team still have more cuts to come today and later this week.
The Bengals added another played to their defensive backfield today by signing college free agent cornerback Tony McRae. McRae was signed by the Raiders after the draft but was released back in May and will provide extra depth as the Bengals finish up training camp and begin their preseason schedule.
