The Bengals face a big test on the road today as they take on the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in Detroit. It should be an interesting game to watch as the two teams have many similarities, check out the comparisons noted below.
4-2 – Both teams enter todays game with a record of 4-2 and both teams are also in 1st place in their divisons and are coming off road wins.
Stacked D-lines – Both teams have excellent young starting defense lineman who can get after the quarterback.
DET starting D-line (sacks this season): Ezekiel Ansah (3), Ndamukong Suh (2.5), Nick Fairley (1.5), Willie Young (2).
CIN starting D-line (sacks this season): Michael Johnson (1.5), Geno Atkins (4), Domata Peko (2.5), Carlos Dunlap (4).
Stud WR’s – This game will feature 2 receivers who many feel are the two best in the NFL in Calvin Johnson and A.J. Green. Both players are quiet, humble guys who do their talking with their play on the field, they are also great friends off the field.
2013 Stats
Calvin Johnson – 24 rec, 337 yds, 4 TD’s
A.J. Green – 37 rec, 464 yds, 4 TD’s
Dual Threat RB’s – Both teams have a dual threat running back with breakaway speed who can pick up chunks on the ground or by catching passes out of the backfield in Reggie Bush and Giovani Bernard.
2013 Stats
Reggie Bush – 78 att, 376 yds, 1 TD / 20 rec, 261 yds, 2 TD’s
Giovani Bernard – 60 att, 237 yds, 2 TD’s / 20 rec, 201 yds, 2 TD’s
I give the Bengals secondary the edge over the Lions with their experience and depth with Leon Hall, Terence Newman, Adam Jones, Reggie Nelson, and Chris Crocker but the Lions secondary and total defense has been more opportunistic in causing turnovers than Cincinnati has thus far this season. This will be an interesting game to watch and one that I believe may have a lot of fireworks.
