Last week the Cincinnati Bengals escaped Buffalo with a 27-24 win in overtime. They played great as a team for the first 3 quarters of the game and held a 24-10 lead heading into the 4th quarter. Mike Nugent missed a field goal near the end of the 3rd quarter that would have given the team a 17 point lead. In the final quarter the Bengals allowed Thad Lewis and the Bills to score 14 unanswered points and force overtime while the Bengals offense had to punt on their final 5 possessions during regulation. Mike Nugent got redemption however and hit a 43 yard field goal to win it in OT. In the NFL a win is a win and that is all that matters at the end of the day. Andy Dalton played well and finished with 337 yards passing and 3 TD’s, he was voted this weeks AFC Offensive Player of The Week. View last weeks highlights by clicking here.
The Bengals now have a record of 4-2 and head to Motown this weekend to take on the 4-2 Detroit Lions and their potent offense which features QB Matthew Stafford, RB Reggie Bush, and stud WR Calvin Johnson. The Bengals played well enough to defeat Aaron Rodgers and the Packers and also Tom Brady and the Patriots at home but haven’t played quite as well on the road this season. Cincy will come in as healthy as they have been as a team all season which is big given that this is Week 7 and most teams are dealing with more significant injuries at this point in the season. Many have said the Bengals and Lions have similar strengths and are fairly evenly matched, however most of the national media seem to be picking the Lions to win this game by a few points.
My Prediction: Bengals 31, Lions 30
