The Bengals made a huge announcement today when they broke the news that they have agreed to a 5 year contract extension with DT Geno Atkins worth $55 million. Multiple league reports indicate that Atkins will receive $22 million in the next 6 months and $36 million in new money over the first 3 years of the deal. The move is another step for the franchise in showing that it is committed to remaining a contender long term after giving DE Carlos Dunlap a 6 year $40 million extension earlier this year.
Atkins is currently considered by many to be the most dominate defensive tackle in the league after leading the team in QB sacks over the past 2 seasons (7.5 in 2011 and 12.5 in 2012) and earning 2 consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl.
