After waiving guard Trey Hopkins yesterday, following the waiver claim of corner KeiVarae Russell, the Bengals signed Hopkins to the practice squad today. To make room the team released undrafted rookie Tony McRae from the practice squad.
The Bengals claimed cornerback KeiVarae Russell off of waivers earlier today. Russell was a third round pick in this past years NFL Draft out of Notre Dame but was waived by the Kansas City Chiefs in what they call “a football move”. Reports were that he was passed up on the depth chart by sixth round pick D.J. White (Georgia Tech) and had trouble picking up the defensive system.
The Bengals waived guard Trey Hopkins to make room on the roster for Russell, he could be resigned to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
The Bengals placed cornerback William Jackson III and running back Cedric Peerman on IR today with the possibility that one of them can return and contribute later this season. To fill their roster spots they signed guard Trey Hopkins and corner Chykie Brown back to the roster. The team will only carry 3 running backs to start the season. Check our updated team depth chart.
The Bengals waived 18 players and also terminated the contract of CB Chykie Brown today. In addition to those moves LB Vontaze Burfict was placed on the Reserve/Suspened list and DT Marcus Hardison was placed on season ending IR due to a shoulder injury he sustained in the game against Jacksonville last Sunday. The team also waived WR Mario Alford from IR with an injury settlement.
